Riyadh: AlUla, the historic oasis city in northwest Saudi Arabia, has captured international acclaim by securing two prestigious spots on TIME’s 2024 list of the ‘World’s Greatest Places’. This recognition highlights AlUla’s dedication to preserving its rich cultural heritage and advancing sustainable tourism practices.
Historic eco-lodge and nature reserve shine
Dar Tantora The House Hotel, which opened its doors in May 2024, is celebrated for its innovative blend of luxury and traditional Bedouin living. Situated in AlUla Old Town, the eco-lodge features 30 guest rooms meticulously restored from historical mud-brick buildings. This unique accommodation underscores AlUla’s commitment to blending historical authenticity with modern luxury.
In addition, the Sharaan Nature Reserve has also been honoured. Spanning nearly 600 square miles, Sharaan is a key player in restoring AlUla’s ecosystem and supports endangered species such as Arabian wolves, gazelles, and Arabian leopards. Its focus on rewilding and conservation further emphasises AlUla’s dedication to sustainable practices.
